    • Store unopened at room temperature for up to 18 months. Refrigerate after opening and enjoy within 7 days.

    Preparation Instructions

    • 1 boneless pork shoulder roast, about 3 1/2 lb. (1.75 kg)
    • Salt and freshly ground pepper
    • 2 Tbs. vegetable oil
    • 1 jar pulled pork starter
    • 6 to 8 hamburger buns, split and toasted

     

    Season pork generously with salt and pepper.

    Slow-cooker method: In large fry pan over medium-high heat, warm oil until almost smoking. Brown pork on all sides, 7 to 8 minutes total. Transfer pork to slow cooker. Add starter. Cover and cook on low according to manufacturer's instructions until fork-tender, 6 1/2 to 7 hours.

    Oven method: Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). In large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, warm oil until almost smoking. Brown pork as instructed above. Add starter. Cover, transfer to oven and bake until pork is fork-tender, about 3 1/2 hours. Transfer pork to large bowl. Skim fat off sauce. Using two forks, shred meat, discarding excess fat. Stir in sauce. If pork isn't as saucy as desired, add up to 1 cup (250ml) water. Divide pork among buns and serve.
